Nothing is more near and dear to a die-hard predator hunter’s heart than a good wind. What I mean by a good wind is a wind that is in your favor when hunting. A good, favorable wind in my opinion could be described by any wind that will not disclose what you are or your location. Chances are if you [click to continue…]

We’ve all heard people talking about how they’ve shot a coyote at a thousand yards on a dead run. How they’ve had three coyotes come into their calls and bagged all three of them, and my favorite scenario is when the coyote came in so close that they didn’t [click to continue…]

The sun was just rising over the mountains to the east as we approached the desert valley. We turned off the pavement and headed down a dirt road. As we surveyed the landscape we found a huge wide-open valley with very little vegetation. We had to improvise to make this work. We wanted to hunt together so we could enjoy the stories, but there was just no place to hide the truck. My calling partner dropped me off [click to continue…]
A few years ago I planned a coyote calling trip with a couple of good friends, one of which was new to hunting coyotes. We made plans for the trip and loaded up all of our gear and travelled a good distance from home for a day of calling. I recently started shooting in a trap league one night a week to continue practicing shotgunning coyotes. The trap league consists of shooting a round of singles and then a round of doubles. While most of the guys involved are shooting an over and under shotgun, I have been using my field shotgun. Why not practice trap with what I am going to take into the field predator calling. As I began shooting in this league I had someone ask me [click to continue…]
As I browsed through the shelves at Cabela’s I was in search of a cheaper method to take coyotes than Hevi-Shot Dead Coyote. I settled on two different loads. The first being a box of Winchester lead BB shot and the second being a box of Hevi-Shot Hevi-Metal also in a shot size of BB. When I got home I realized that the Hevi-Metal was a Hevi-Shot / Steel shot mix. I thought… what have I just bought, [click to continue…]
Probably the biggest question, for good reason, that gets asked about coyote hunting is where to find coyotes. Finding where a coyote is will definately up your odds of being able to harvest one. If you do a search on the internet for coyote numbers you will find the number of coyotes are growing. This should make finding a coyote easier, but with the popularity of more and more people going out to hunt them it makes it much harder to bring them in. [click to continue…]
