The Coordinator Ecologist of Asturias has reported to the office of the Prosecutor of the Principality, the hunting of a wolf last Sunday in a raid within a booking of Cangas del Narcea.
In a statement, the conservation organization has stressed that the Plan of Hunting on the Regional Reserves of Hunting for the season 2017-2018 “did not include the possibility of hunting wolves”, so that the facts could result in the commission of a crime.
The Coordinator has insisted that the wolf is not a game species and that the current Regulation of Hunting of Principality set that can only be performed on species, subspecies or populations of wildlife so declared, and that only exceptionally would be able to adopt this measure “when it is justified by reason of damage to or of the nature of biological”.
According to ecologists, given that the Government asturian acknowledges that damages have decreased significantly in recent years, you can not apply the exception provided for in the regulations and believe it to be unacceptable that is authorized hunting of wolf “with a similar opacity without making public the resolutions of the beatings or the justification of such an exceptional measure”.
Twenty-three environmental organizations petitioned yesterday the Government of the Principality the suspension of any whipped against the wolf as the foreseen for the coming Sunday, considering that they are contrary to the legislation in force.
The organizations urge the Government to seek consensus solutions to the conflict and to encourage the use of preventive measures to reduce the potential damage caused by the wolf.
Also, in order to carry out a good management of the livestock activity, ask to proceed with the payment without delay of possible damage and speed up the authorizations to deposit corpses of dead cattle in the bush without the obligation for payment of insurance collected to the cattlemen
